What is a meme?

If you're looking to educate yourself on what memes are, well, you've come to the wrong place. But I'll try my best to get you hooked up into this bizzare world of the internet. Before you get to know how memes become their viral self we must first off explain what is actually a meme.

The word meme comes from Richard Dawkins himself, found as a term to explain the way cultural information spreads. With the Internet, there is a cultural background behind the screen, which is pretty cool to think that a bunch of sarcastic, ironic guys on a keyboard make a whole culture.

So, this culture has memes, elements and behaviors passed on from person to person, rather than by genetics, but by imitation and exposure. When people say "internet memes" they almost always refer to one type of media specifically, the one with humorous content. This is because the biggest impact and clicks that posts get is the ones that get a chuckle out of you. These memes can be about any topic, from first world problems to philosophy to politics.

Normally, these memers are mostly Millenials and below, as the internet culture originates from them and the next generations, as well as because they're generally in love with them! But the average age of meme users is increasing, though, as Generation X and Baby Boomer users discover the entertainment fun of spreading memes to their spreads.

It's also noticeable how these memes evolved during time into complete other things, like Spicy Memes, or Dank memes... But that's for another post.
